Thursday

shellie holden

"In using a contemporary novel as a back drop for the embroidery, the cut work decoration is used to manipulate this meaning when combined with the written word - in Sadie Smiths White Teeth some of the abrupt, crass language in the book emerges through the printed textual layers of paper, jarring the reading, perhaps forcing to viewer to reconsider the role of embroidery in the 21st Century."

kohei yamashita

Kohei Yamashita creates 2D and 3D works by collaging fragments cut out from printed matter. They are characterized by microscopic round parts taken from diamond advertisements, articles explaining the structure of atoms, and photos of soccer balls and flowers. These colourful fragments are taken from glossy paper, and have the appearance of water droplets or beads, covering his works with a radiant luster.  Quote from - tokyoartbeat .............. I just love it!!!!

leonie oakes

I love dresses that are art pieces! Aussie Leona is predominately a printmaker and book artist, but for me it's her mixed media dresses that stand out.  She mentions that her central themes are thought, memory and containment.  Pop over to Handmark Gallery - there are some terrific artists there...
